Gandharan stucco head of the Buddha.

Following the iconography of the Buddha, this head has a domical usnisa, a prominence on the top of the head,

and elongated earlobes, both laksanas, attributes of transcendental beings.

Sharply executed features create a beautifully serene expression.

Some wear and minor damage. H. 5 1/2" (14 cm.). Ca. 4th-5th century AD.
